Replacement for secondary h2o pump...

Hi!

Just wondering what had happened to the search for an aftermarket
replacement for the secondary water pump on the 5k/200 cars. Mine
is dead, car heats to 100 celcius quickly in short-stop traffic
at which point the fan should come on but all I hear from under the
dash is "click-click-click" as some relay goes mad. Me thinks it has
something to do with the now-brown-with-scale-and-rust water pump I
have under the hood. Agents asking a fortune as usual. No-one stripping
Audi cars and VW Kombi 2.5i buses that have the exact same pump.

On the note of overheating in traffic (including at night and in
cold rainy conditions), could this just be because of the block in
the system offered by the water pump or due perhaps to something like
a blown head gasket? Car does whistle a high pitched tune when cold,
but only shows its head at 60km/h an hour and dies when slowing down.
Goes away when warm, but not altogether gone. Perhaps just bad sticky
brake system. :)
