Behind the glove compartment.  You have to flip the glove compartment
"door" down, and the receiver should be mounted upside-down, on the
top of the inside of the dash.  To flip the glove compartment door down,
you have to press on the spring-loaded guide arms to get them past the
stop-point on the track.  The receiver in my father's '97 1.8t was
a small silver box approximately 6"x3"x2" (LxWxH).
