no, sorry - not even close.  audi by miles.

i haven't seen the new 3-series (has anyone?), but the old e36 simply can't
compare quality-wise with the a4...

the e30 was a well-put-together car, but the e36 was a major disappointment.

btw, i think that the 5-series is a much better quality car...

yes, the m5 will have 400hp.  and audi (and mb) will have cars with similar hp.
 your problem is that you live in the land of freedom, that country of free
choice, of liberty; where you can't get the cars you want ;-)

the new s4 has been rated better than the m3 which has 20-30 more hp (in euro
form), and it is cheaper than the m3.  i don't know because, while i have
driven the euro m3, i haven't yet had the chance in the new s4.  however i do
expect it to be good, better put together than the m3, and an all-round better
machine.

btw, audi has also outsold the 3-series with the a4 for the last year or so...
