Re: Door lock failure: '90 200 TQW

Hi Tom;

    I had the same problem with my '91 200q. The back of the lock cylinder
is keyed into an arm which works the lock mechanism. The original arm cracks
at the boss which engages the lock cylinder and splits open, allowing the
lock cylinder to rotate within the arm. The fix is to fit a redesigned arm
which is much more robust. It's been a while since I did this job, but I
seem to recall the parts costing about $30 - 40 CDN.
    The replacement is not difficult, but it is a PITA to remove and replace
the clip which secures the lock cylinder to the door. Carefully note the
position of the white plastic lock guard so you can replace it without
trying every possible position to see if it will fit!
    I had to modify the new arm slightly so it would clear the lock
mechanism. My car does not have a factory alarm system.
