Does anyone know what makes up a 91' V8 Evolution Homologation car!?

I was just reading about the V8 Dtm cars and I keep reading reference to a 
"Evolution" model. I assume it is a homologation special car. 

Does anyone out there have any info on these cars? 

And how in the world do they stuff a 11x19" BBS race wheel under those
fenders, especially with a wider track in the rear (1542mm vs 1501mm
for the front)
