Why not just hose it off?  I've done that with my Civic a number of times
with no ill effects, except a month ago when it ran on 3 cylinders on the
trip home, until the ignition wires dried out.  Time to replace 'em!  I usually
go to one of those do-it-yourself car washes with a high pressure hose, soap
injector, etc.
