Re: engine cleaning
I've used the do-it-yourself carwash to clean the engine compartment on my '87
every 2 or 3 months since new. Just rinse water, no soap (the soaps are pretty
caustic). Have replaced very little under the hood (but don't tell the Audi
gods!), so guess it doesn't do much harm. Cleans up pretty nicely each time
too. Don't aim directly at the distributor, though, or you'll have to pop the
cap and dry inside it to get the engine to start. BTDT. FWIW.
