battery fluid level

Since the weather was mghty nice, I thought I'd check the battery fluid
level. And one major problem came up -- how much do I fill? The darn Sears
one ('ol one -- a good one) is in black housing. As far as I can tell,
the fluid level is .5cm above the plates. Is that enough?
