The quick rundown on the bass question from a window-rattler:
It's not making too much power. Actually, that Sony isn't doing enough.
35x4? Not a chance. That amp is overrated (watts-wise). Give enough power
to the Panasonics (outboard amp) and they will not "clip" (the source of
the distortion you're hearing)...
But even in Bucksnort, you wouldn't want to wake the neighbors, now...
