Welding question

Thanks to Christian Long, my father found a nice replacement trunk from
an '85 CGT for his '82 Coupe in a junkyard near Orlando. Unfortunately,
when he was unbolting the trunk from the hinge, two of the mounting studs
broke off of the trunk lid. So, my father plans to weld some threaded
rod in place of the broken mounting studs.

My question is: what type of welding technique should he use?

I am very unfamiliar with welding, and don't know what the various "target"
uses for arc, MIG, and oxy-acetylene (?) welding are. If someone could
recommend the proper method for this type of job, I would appreciate it.
A brief summary of what each method is meant for would also be very
helpful, as we have other projects (my brother wants to cut out his
resonator & muffler and weld in replacements) that we want to do, so we
plan on buying a welder (arc or MIG).

Thanks,
Eric
