Yup, I did that to my 80 4000 FWD.  The 16V Scirocco calipers and 10.1"
vented rotors bolted up to the 4000 strut housings perfectly.  I also
swapped the rear drums out for the 16V Scirocco's discs.  The rear
conversion was also straightforward, but required some custom brake
line plumbing.  The results are fantastic.
