Powered the V-1 through the cigarette lighter for a couple of weeks, but
still no false alarms.

I have the remote display in that exact location. I am eventually going to get
the little coin door so I can conceal the remote display should an altercation
occur. In the mean time I have mounted it in the empty box (sans coin door)
using a piece of black plastic to center it (hole cut out for V-1 remote unit
to center it in the box). I cut a part off a cheap black plastice mud flap
from Pep Boys. The color and grain match the plastic pretty well. ideal
location would be in the place of te auto-check display, but this location is tolerable.

On the falsing: I too have this problem. I will eventually wire it into the
fuse panel with it's own fuse and an ignition relay so it turns on/off
automatically. Sounds like that will cure it. BTW, I don't know how I ever got
along without this detector. It is the only way to go (quickly).
