a4q radio reception

Have a friend with a new '97 a4q complains of poor radio reception, car has
the upgraded radio and she listens to mainly fm. Car has been back to
dealer and they say radio is functioning correctly but their feeling is
that reception is compromised by the hidden antenna that manufacturer
insists on using. Does anyone have info regarding poor reception ? Car
owner is even considering going to a fender mount antenna to correct
condition, hope someone can help.
