'85 5kST: Ignition/electrical problem...
Hello again everyone,
My car is still not starting and has been towed home from being at the
dealer for 6 weeks. They said that it would take between 5 and 15 hours of
labor to find out what is causing the problem. The problem was thought to
be the ECU, but another working ECU from a NY parts place was used in the
car and did not solve the problem. When it was installed, the car started
three times and then wouldn't start at all. This ECU was sent back to NY,
tested and found to be perfectly ok. When the car's orignal ECU was
reinstalled one week later, the same thing happened. The car started three
times, ran perfectly, and then stopped working on the next start attempt.
So, the ECU is not the problem, but it must be something related.
I examined the ground wires to the intake manifold and looked for any other
wires in other areas that showed signs of damage, but could not find any.
The ECU is receiving voltage. The fuel pump is working, but I am not sure
if the engine is receiving any fuel. I pulled a plug and it was dry. There
is also no ignition spark being generated. There is not one sign of the
engine trying to fire. Everthing appears normal. Is there a small
component somwhere that would prevent the entire car from starting at all?
If anyone has any information on the start sequence of the ECU, let me know.
It is as if the ECU is not sending out the appropriate signals due to some
other problem in another component.
If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Thanks for reading.
