It's really hard to tell whats to pass for humor early on a Monday morning.
Here is some input as I see it so far on the right side steering arm...I spent
some of Sunday with my nose into disassembled 5000/1000s and it look to me as
though a new steering "rod" (I don't know what Audi will call that yet) could be
fabricated to miss the wastegate with out aggravating a (potental) bump steer
problem. It also looks that the ur-quattro had the same problem and Audi may
have an off the shelf answer somewhere. My wife to be speaks and writes German
at a college level (unlike myself) and I'm having her write me up a note to go
to Herr Winzer to ask what the lessions learned are. Which I will share. It
seems to me that the vacuum needed to lock the diff's could be profided by using
another of the VW/Audi central door locking pumps.
Believe me this is just the beginning of a long and winding road (tm
Lennon/McCartney) I've got a ton to learn, the mechanical stuff i.e. engine
mounts etc. will be the easy stuff. I still am interested in seeing if the
brakes off a 200t will be adaptable to this situation? Were does the intercooler
go? Will I have problem adapting the air conditioning system? Can I keep this
prodject under 14k? On and on, but what fun, I love weird automotive challeges.
