PIR rant was Re: compare this what?
All I know is that I was driving the only AWD car on the track at PIR on
Friday in the rain. Needless to say, I was having a great time. A few
(most) of my porsche buddies were NOT. Most talked about going home early
and did. There were only 3 cars out during the last session of the day.
1+ hours of track time in the urq during that session alone!
The 3 new M3 BMWs with traction control were out there AND went home early
as well. 2 of those cars took major agricultural excursions during the day
too.
Oh, and 3 of the P-cars were damaged as they hit the various walls around
the track. One of those is a presumed total.
BTW, 2 of the drivers who wrecked their cars were veteran P-club guys. The
BMW drivers are at every event I have attended.
Does this have any relavance to this dicussion? Sure. Since it rains so
much in the Pacific NW, I think I'll keep driving quattros.
A final note is that SCCA (locally) has banned quattros from competing in
any class! Must be something to do with traction.
I don't buy what you said about:
"The tests don't show the documentation of awd over traction control. Add
in good tires and driver skill, the awd advantage is compromised."
I've experienced the quattro advantage too many times in the rain or snow
to praise any "tests."
Just my $0.02.
