<All> In Praise of pawn shops

[ 04-06-1998 12:22:58.57 - BDG ]

I do love pawn shops. Had to pull a rear brake drum off an old car
and didn't have a socket big enough (1-1/4 or 32mm...) The second
pawn shop I hit has a set of unused 1/2" drive K&D sockets -
29/30/31/32 mm - with $12.95 on them. I walked out with them for $10
including tax.

Even if I never use the other three sockets (and I'm not worried
about that - sooner or later...) I was happy to connect with that
kind of deal.

Oh yes - breaking the axle nut loose required the socket, a 1/2"
breaker bar and 4 ft. of pipe on the bar. Estimated break-loose
torque was about 250 ft/lbs. Made a very satisfying "PANG" when it
broke loose....
