Rich- I own two Craftsman air compressors one purchased in 1973 with cast iron
twin cylinder pump 2 1/2 horse 20 gal tank still running strong, the other
purchased in 1993 also twin cylinder but aluminium block with 4 1/2 horse also
running strong. I use them for painting cars as well as powering a multitude
of air tools without problem. You will need a good regulator and water filter
if you paint. I would also recommend an oiler if you will be using air tools.
I like the vertical type better than my horizontal tank just due to space
considerations. You don't mention if the compressor is a piston or vane type.
I have no personal experience with vane types but have heard they aren't as
good. If you plan to use them frequently, wire it to 220VOLTS. Good luck!
