MPG / MPG average readings

Having not long collected my URq up from the workshop ( engine overhaul
) I now find that the MPG on the digital dash is permanently reading
5MPG.   I'm in BIG trouble if that's true - does any one know what
sensors are used to determine this figure - perhaps its a wire off
somewhere.
