RE: engine transplants into 80/90q/ and 400hp 20v!!!
Well, yesterday I went for a ride in Alex Nickases 86' 4ktq which has a
20v turbo in it putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 hp. WOW,
and Whee, and HOLY S*#T were words used while in it. And with the 225/45
ZR-16 AVS Intermediates, coil overs and 400 lb in springs, similar words
were used on the Freeway offramp cloverleaf at 70 mph. "hey, did that
sign say offramp - 35mph" I think we were around 90 before I realized he
had floofed it to pass the guy going 50. And while following, well, even
with 400lb in springs, when he floors it in 3rd gear at 50 mph, the car
squats like a 500 lb clown just jumped on the back and takes off, leaving
you like you are standing still.
I think I will hurry up on that turbo conversion I want to do.
And as for the differences in 1.8 L engines, I believe they are completely
different blocks. If I am not mistaken, then the Bore and stroke are very
different, as is construction. The old Audi 1.8 was the same as teh VW
1.8 which was an Iron Block I believe and related to the old I5 engine. I
believe new Audi 1.8 is Aluminum????? Not sure what differences are but I
know they are different.
Well, good luck if you decide to do it.

Considering a Turbo Conversion :)
And I just got new Pedals, and added relays to lights. Both work great!

Oh great now you've gone and done it. Now I am looking out the window
at my 89 90q and imagining a 20v turbo under the hood, 16 inch wheels
and tires, and Porsche breaks (not to mention carbon fiber instead of
wood, and a sport steering wheel). My kids don't really need cloths,
food, etc. for the next year or so do they?
But seriously, does anybody know if the new 1.8T engines are the same
- -or similar- block as the old Audi 1.8. Not that I would be thinking of
swapping one into my car ;^).
