RE: Help with 4ks and Dash upgrade
Yes Dan,
In answer to your dash question. You can update the dash. I HAVE
done it. i ahve an 84' 4kq with a 1986 dash. Looks very nice. The black
center console carpet doesn't match the brown carpeting but oh well, it is
barely noticable.
you need the dash, Center console, shift boot, all vents,
instrument surround (clusther is optional and very hard to make work due
to wiring differences), the left and right glove box aond storage bins.
The glovebox is a tight fit in, CPU wiring and sound insulation
differences is my guess but it does fit. You can also upgrade to the
newer style stalk with black levers but need to re wire things. Oh and
you need all switches. AND YOU NEED ALL SWITCHES SOCKETS. Get them with
it so you dont have to track them donw like I did. My setup is complete
but the wiring took a while. It si all straight forward and simple but
takes a little time. You could do the whole conversion in one day if you
have all the switches and sockets.
Oh, and get the newer style Air system controls and plate and 4wd
display as well. And some window switches as the old ones will not fit in
the smaller new holes. Then fill center holes with switches of choice for
lights or seatbelt locks. If you wish to keep gauges where the 4wd switch
is, or have a non quattro then I guess you dont need that part but with
quattro you can mount gauges there and put old 4wd diff locks elsewhere.
I used the old diff lock lights to fill the place where the center window
switches go on the newer cars.
Well, good luck. If you have any more questions then let me know.
