Some years ago I traced a similar problem with the autocheck and the radio
station display to a faulty connection inside the instrument cluster (IC).
There are two pair of mating connectors which look a lot like the typical
DB25 connectors inside the hinged rear cover of the IC. They separate when
the hinged cover is opened. Remove the IC, open the cover, clean these
connectors and put it all back together and your problem should be solved.
Be sure when you close the cover that the pins and holes match up properly.
There is enough slop in the hinge to allow a mis-mating of plug and socket.
Don't ask.
If you need further instructions on removing the IC, lemme know.
