Re: 4M'S???
>>> AUDI1OO <AUDI1OO@aol.com> - 4/8/98 10:51 PM >>>
I found out that the speaker sizes in my front dast are a size 4M. Does
anyone know any particular company that has these speakers?
>>>DO NOT PURCHASE THE PLATE 4"x6" speakers and attempt to cut them down....BTDT. DO check for the 4x^ metric size speakers (they look oval with small tabs for screws at the corners.) Most speaker companies DO offer them, but it can be tough to find them. Crutchfield (mail order) does list a few....Pioneer, Polk, JBL, maybe Infinity. Try crutchfield.com.
>>>OR, try another (more difficult) tack. I felt the 4 x 6's would never give enough range, so I took a blade and jig saw to the door trim and dremel to the plastic "stuff" try mounted onto the door in order to allow a bigger speaker. Sounds like a lot of work, but not THAT bad. I'm kind of proud, check it out at the bottom picture of this page :

Also, in the rear
of my car are factory "stand up" tweeters. Does anyone know any ideas on how
to replace these with "high end" speakers???
>>>Aesthetically, remove the factory mounts and compare diameter openings to other tweets offered. Simply mount the tweet inside factory mount if possible. Keep in mind that most of the high-end tweets allow three mounting "positions." Flush (inside plastic mount), Pop-Up / Top Mount (inside mount, but extended to sruface ~1/4-1"), and Aimed mount (Simply angled inside the last mounting position.). In most cases, the tweeter itself is separate form the mounting collar. You CAN use just the speaker if lucky enough to fit in the original factory collar.
Good Luck
