I like the 5k's dash lights, though I've strongly considered replacing all
those f#$!@ bulbs with red LED's so they never burn out, and I get _pure_
red instead of reddish-orange light...but yhea, I agree with you; being
able to dim down the whole dash except for accessories(stupid radio!) is
nice with sucky headlights on long trips.
Speaking of which, our Volvo's dimmer slider dims _everything_ excepting
the window switch lights. Even the auto shifter legend dims as do the
"personality" buttons for the tranny(Sport, Econ, Winter.)

Chebby S-10 Blitzers(Blazers) in certain years with the top trim levels
came with green(flourescent) digital dashes. Friend who owns one said the
replacement board is $700 and it tends to go fairly often.
The turn signals are also part of the flourescent display...it's wicked
high-budget...the arrows cycle among a little animation of 3-4 arrows of
different sizes, so it looks like your turn signal is blowing up. For
those easily amused Americans, I guess(hey, worked for me, I was amused!)
Certain Crown Vics, esp. Police packages, come with digital dashes...guess
it's to give the cop an exact number. Dunno. Various Caddys came with 'em
too...
More toys to break :)
