According to the May 1998 issue of C&D at page 112,

"The 2.7 litre twin turbo will eventually come to the U.S.  Its
227-hp engine is a light-pressure version of the engine that
powers the European Audi S4.  Until the V-8 powered Audi S6 model
appears at the end of the year, the Avant is now the best
performer in the A6 lineup."

In time, IA, Hoppen, & TAP will probably be able to cure the
"light pressure" problem.
