Unintended Retardation (fwd)

Can anyone here help this guy? I seem to remember this problem being
discussed on the list not too long ago.

He isn't subscribed, so a direct email would be best.

Several thousand miles ago (last Fall) I had a rather normal pad
replacement performed on my extremely reliable old 87 5000 quattro
(normally aspirated.)

A couple of times when the weather got warm enough (mid 70s F) I would
notice brake drag at the rear, but it went away.

Now, as the weather is warming up, I am experiencing the problem once
again.

It is totally predictable. Whenever I am driving at air temps at or above
lower to mid 70s, the brakes start to drag. At first, they drag ever so
slightly, but as they heat up (because I'm at highway speed,) it's like
some phantom depresses the pedal more and more.

This phenomenon is accompanied by a whopping increase in brake pedal free
play. Finally, the fronts start to drag and heat up until the steering
wheel starts shaking in my hands!

Does any know what might be going on here? M7 87 has all the chassis
components of the Turbo model of the same year, including the Turbo's brake
proportioning system.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide
