my brake booster

<hehe>

I just have to let you folks know about this.

I got my brake booster today. I came packaged in a box, which along with
the clevis, was within another box. (I have to get the clevis pin and
jamb nut from the dealer)

When I opened the inside box, I found that the booster was packed with
newspapers that were all Japanese! I was sorely disappointed, because
I buy almost all my parts from Rod at The Parts Connection, and they've
always been original equipment (read: German) parts. Personally, I do
prefer to have all German parts on my Audi's.

I thought, "That's why he was so much cheaper than the others. This
thing is cheap aftermarket!"

It bugged me so much that I had to call get the story. He told me that
the boosters come in the box with no packing material, and they repack
them with newspapers that they get from some place across the street,
which (I forget the details) are Japanese. His story is corroborated
by the fact that the inside box was damaged in a different corner than
the pushrod was facing, as if it was repacked, and originally didn't
have any packing material. The part is a Lucas part (according to the
sticker), which he said Lucas/Girling is German. Girling yes, but I've
never heard of Lucas. I guess they're the same/related company(?).

It was quite a relief to find that it was the part I wanted (OE). He got
a bit of a laugh at my concern, as did I. I'm glad I called to ask.

BTW, they are starting to get a website up:
http://www.thepartsconnection.com. There's nothing there yet, tho'.
