The D40M2's are the precurrsor to the SP8000's.  They are older
designs that are being flushed out of the distribution system.
If you are going to need to replace one corner or end, do so now.
For getting all four new, you can shop them against the newer SP
models (4000,8000).  There are specials on the D40M2's in some
cases, so they may be a relative bargain.

I use the D40M2 as summer tires on my UrQ.  I have run 55 and 60
series, and find them a nice tire.  Just about right for our 
fairly heavey cars.  I say if you can find them for less than
$100 each go for it.  If you want to cheap out, and get more rain
and snow performance and less dry cornering, the D60A2's are OK
and pretty cheap.  I think they go for 50-60 per corner in 15 inch
audish sizes.  Just don't expect to tear up the road with them.
