On Blue Ion / Blue whatever headlights
I told myself not to get into all of these blue headlamp discussions,
but... well. here i go.
I was under the impression, (have read in some auto or science mag) that
the idea of the 'blue' headlight concept, was to get lower wavelength light
out of the bulb, without a loss in wattage - or cranking up the wattage and
using a filter.
The reason stated for the case of lower wavelength idea, was something
along the lines of " The lower frequency wavelength light is reflected
better at night time by highway signs/markings and obstructions than
higher, or rather normal, frequency bulbs ".
They experimented with Huge U.V. lights in place of, and in addition to,
the stock headlamps. That led them down the path of the "Blue Ion" headlamps.
I have heard that people are making cheap knockoffs, or using filters (blue
plastic!!) to make wanna-be low freq. spectrum headlamps. I would expect
these lights to be more standard frequency blue, and thus look a lot more
blue than the "Blue Ion" lamps.
then again.. Who knows. If 'ol Ferdanand were still with us, we could
probably ask him what the hell is going on. But, having changed the
autoworld forever, he's gone off in the sun to relax for eternity, and have
Boat Drinks. And that's whats important. Boat Drinks. Sun, Beaches, Boat
Drinks, A huge yacht - and a huge concrete track with a garage full of
prime racing machines. :)
