C-GT creaking front end update (already)
I just replaced my tranny mount with a brand new one, and I dropped the
a-arms and checked them out. They're not ovaled or worn in any way. I
greased the heck out of those puppies and put it all back together.
I went for a drive, and it's the same. <doh!>
So, I'm thinking it's either the outer CV joints or the motor mounts.
Mike T. suggested it might be the wheel bearings, which it might. I just
replaced those not long ago tho'. Maybe a year ago? Not even that long
I think. <aargh!>
It wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't sound like something is gonna
be really, really bad if I don't get it fixed soon. <sniff><sob>
I just can't seem to keep up with this thing! I'm ordering the clevis
pin and lock nut from the dealer on Monday for my brake booster. And
I'll prolly place an order with J.C. Whitney to get those ProThane
urethane sway bar bushings, now that my sway bar is completely off and I
can easily take measurements from the bushings.
I just thought of something. If the wheel bearings are worn, wouldn't
they wheels and hubs be loose and rattly? They're not, I punched the
tires just yesterday when I got an alignment and they were off the
ground. Doesn't that rule them out?! If so, then I guess I'll order
some motor mounts from TPC tomorrow as well, and an oil pan gasket, and
some crush washers and maybe a head gasket set for the 4ksq so I can
really get into some projects. Enough rambling, I'm gonna go on another
test drive.
Later,

p.s. I have some other axles I could "throw" in to see if it alleviates
the noise. The boots are torn tho', so it'd be more of a diagnosis than
a fix.
