Yea, Audi commissioned ASC to build a design study Coupe GT. It was very
sharp looking with a beautiful rear deck design that looked great with the
soft top up or down. The car was red, with a black top and red and black
interior, white wheels with red Audi rings on them, blacked out taillights,
and a smaller rear seat. I have a lot of pictures of it actually, but I just
don't have a scanner.
Audi was seriously thinking about producing the CGT Cabrio, but pulled the
plug for some reason. The prototype was built in '86, and since '87 was the
end of the CGT's production run, they were thinking of continuing with the
production on the cabrio anyway, like what they are doing now with the current
cabrio.
The cabrio was 100% better looking than the Treser hardtop cabrio. The Treser
with the hardtop up looked like some kind of pickup with it's long rear deck
and all.
I have LOTS of pics of Audi show cars, spy photos and concept photos from Audi
over the past 15 years, and was thinking about making a web page for "Concept
cars and Prototypes of Audi". I have pics and drawings of the Audi minivan
that was never produced, original Spyder drawings, CGT cabrio, V8 prototypes,
CQ prototypes, UrQ prototype, and many many others. It would be a great web
page if I ever get around to it.
