Aahh yes, the owner's manual. Forgot about that little resource. It says the
alarm will be activated about 30 seconds after it is 'set' with the door lock
(using the key). It works. I hadn't anticipated a 30 second delay. (and yes,
the feeble trunk horn works as designed - anyone know why the real horns
aren't used instead?)
