It isn't a bug, its a feature
According to the 2/98 issue of Popular Mechanics, which I read while
waiting for a haircut yesterday:
warning: <bs detector ON>
" All 1992 and newer Audi's with the 2.8 liter V-6 make a rasping noise at
the tailpipe during warmup. This is to extract condensation and is normal."
I am about to make my own rasping noise: protrude lower lip slightly, place
tongue on it, close mouth, exhale. The rasping noise you hear is normal,
and it is called a "Bronx cheer".
</bs detector off>
By the way, I have a pair of rear discs for 1989 100 w/ABS. Just been
turned, four hole type, $25 buys the pair, plus freight from Daytona Beach.
These aren't perfect, but are definitely serviceable. Turns out they don't
fit my 86 5K because I don't have ABS - they are the same diameter, but the
"top hat" is deeper.
Still have an ABS computer for sale: $100?
And Phil, good luck on the 4,950 hog rings!
Best Regards,
Mike Arman
