I disagree.  The A4 (and current generation Audis as a whole) are built much,
much better than older Audis.  I have two older Audis and neither are anywhere
near the quality of the A4.

As much as I love the older Audis, when it comes to design, function,
materials, fit/finish and refinement the new Audis are simply in a totally
different league as compared to the olden days.
