V8 Oil Leak

There is a spot under the passenger side distributor
that was leaking a little bit on mine. There is also
an O-ring that leaks anti-freeze after a "hard" run
that simulates an oil leak smell/smoke on the side of
the cylinder head. (Check the archives, the various
possible leak sites were thoughly discussed on here
a year or two ago.)
One BIG caution, do NOT steam clean the engine of the
V8Q in hopes of finding the oil leak. There has been
more than one case of 1K $ and up electricals that
appreciated taking a bath as much as my Jack Russel
Terrier does.....
Use brake cleaner, electrical cleaner or some such product
to clean the general area you suspect the leak is coming
from.
On my '90 V8Q I had a leak in the lower half of the oil pan
(gasket is +/-$40) that seemed to be coming from 20 different
places, the turbulance under the hood gives fluid dynamics a
new meaning. With the bottom engine cover removed and
the car on a lift, you should be able to get a good handle
on where the leak is coming from. Wherever it's leaking,
GET THE PART FIRST, I had to wait almost a month to get
a stupid "rubbing block" when I changed the timing belt
on the V8Q.
BCNU,
... RAM DISK is NOT an installation procedure!
