I had one on a car or two, and there is NO problem with them flipping
open, in fact they are a bit sticky to open, with the strong rtainer
spring used.  Only problem I had was bashing one on a curbstone, then
it really wouldn't open.  But it still never leaked.  Your friend
was wrong.
