Big-end bearings gone... any ideas?
Hi,
just resubscribed to the list after I was dropped because of some
list malfunction long time ago....
My 5K sat patiently since then with #2 big-end bearing spun, #1 and #4
badly damaged and #3, #5 bearings looking OK.
Main bearings look good, crank journals show some damage but the marks
are not deep, mostly bearing material deposited onto the crank.
I am wondering what would be the best way to proceed from here....
maybe polish those journals with some 600 sand paper put it all
back, check oil pressure and see?
or maybe a find a core (what would be the best year/type) rebuild
and rebuild it. (mine is an '84 auto)
or maybe someone has a used engine?
At the same time I'd like to convert to a stick.
Pedals are in (needed to bang the trans tunnel in about 1.5" next to
the gas pedal for clearance) clutch line is in, valve cover, throttle
body, shifter, half shafts, f-wheel/clutch/pilot bearing and down pipe
are all sourced.
Did I miss something?
Please help guys as this project is taking sooo long and is puting a
strain on my relationship with significant other....
Still wondering why that bearing spun?...
thank you
