I guess in USA you don't keep track of latest developments in diesel
technology. The modern diesel we are talking here is *not* your 1980 Rabbit
or GM truck. First, the direct injection technology first introduced to
passenger car by Audi enabled the turbodiesel engine to reach the power to
displacement ratio of a gasoline engine while retaining the excellent low
end torque typical to diesel engines. Bosch developed electronically
controlled injection pumps - bye, bye black smoke and the side effect is
the possibility of chip tuning. Some emissions control devices previously
found on gas engines have found their way to diesels - VW/Audi TDI engines
now use catalytic converters and exhaust gas recirculation which makes them
actually more enviroment friendly than most of gas engines. If you see an
A6 2.5 TDI don't mess with it - it will easily outperform a stock 5KTQ.
