Fixed that on my '86 4000Q about six months ago.. My local machanic fixed it using a mig welder. He also added some metal
to prevent it from happening again. On high mileage (+200k) Audis the firewall just gets "work hardened" and cracks.

It cost me two hours labor, plus I had the Master cylinder replaced at the same time (it was leaking).

If you live anywhere near Southern New Hampshire, Stevens Auto Service in Derry, NH did the job.
