Billy, Billy, Billy--maybe out in that part of WI where there be cows
there is no emissions inspection, but over here in the southeastern part
of the state we get to do that every two years. Used to be every year.
The folks who have the contract from the state DOT seem to be getting
better.
The 4WD/AWD dyno roller have been around for awhile, but they never could
get my 4kcsq to hook up right on the dyno. they would strap it down and
it would wander all over the place. After 20 minutes of frustration they
would simply do the stationary test.
When I got the '89 100q inspected last time they got it all tied down all
nice and neat and actually did the speeds up to 40 or 50 mph. Kept
wondering what would have happened if the strap had broken, person driving
the car did not know how to drive a stick, etc.
There was a Dodge Stealth/Mitsu 3000 GT VR4 vehicle sitting on a rack in
my
local mechanic's garage for about 10 weeks. Seemed like the folks running
the test messed up pretty badly. Insurance estimate to fix the damage was
over $7,000.
Can you imagine the feeling when the hook up your 6 figure Porsche
turbo--I'd love to experience the feeling--not in this life with this
career.
Also in WI, the inspection folks check the gas filler pipe to make sure it
has not been tampered with,. they also look to see if the cat. converter
is in place(noway to look inside), and they perofrm a gas cap
pressurization test.
My 4kcsq flunked its cap pressurization test. Had to go buy a new cap and
bring it in to be pressure checked. sheesh!
Bill Murin
no UrQ like Bill Elliott, but emissions tests!
