Re: Off-list-topic: new Passat wagon
FWIW...
I'm far from the authority on the syncro, but Jim Griffin and I are fairly voiciferous on the topic occasionally ;-)
ADMITTAL: After years of waiting for the dern things, i'm a little disappointed at the Pst Avt. (Especially when I compare one next to the A4/S4 Avt.). Too "tame." Not nearly as sporting as the old quantum even. But would certainly fit the bill for a few bills less.
My couple VW sources have been on the mark with expected dates for the Passat, Beetle, etc. The V6 GLX is anticipated around the end of May / mid June. Was told that the syncro may be introduced at the same time, but still no firm word.
Definitely larger than A4, mostly in hatch space and rear leg room, but it still looks tall and lanky. Cheesy "plastic alloys" don't help matters on the base model.
I'm guessing the syncro will only come as a safety type deal on the GLX, putting it in a direct category with Vulva. If only someone would fill that sporty AWD niche in between Suby and Audi. Cloth seats, 1.8t, less chrome & few options....

Now give
me the 5-spd with syncro and I'm on the hook....
