Speedometer works sometimes, intermittent odo
Hi all,
I've been in visiting the Twin Cities for the last three
days and just managed to get time to download
all my mail and read it.
I saw the speedometer problem, and remembered I had
just sent someone else a private -mail about the same
problem middle of last week. So I think this time
I will post it to the whole group.
The problem can be fixed by dismantling the whole gauge
system and resoldering the bad solder joints on the four
pins that connect the speedometer/odometer cluster
to the flexible ( green) printed circuit board on the back
of the instrument gauge cluster.
You need to be fearless in disassembling the cluster system,
and reasonably handy with a soldering iron. the whole job was
under an hour. About twelve screws hold the back of the
gauge assembly on, and the internal gauges now come out
from the front plastic shield.
Four screws attract the sp/odo cluster to the system. all signals
to this system are on four pins, and the bad joints are where
the pins meet the circuit board.
good luck...
Alan Cordeiro.
