I really think it depends on what type of look you're going for. I had an
'86 CGT, and I was going for an early 90s euro look. I was successful by
putting on a euro plate on the front, a rounded spoiler that plead to the
edges of the car, 17" Evos, tinted tail lights, and a momo shifter. Many
people thought the was a '89-93 model. I think that color matching your
rims in red will give you an 80s look.
If you do paint your rims red, please keep them clean. There is a red
Porsche 944 around with red rims and it is even harder for him to get away
with having dirt and breakdust all over his rims. since you want
opinions, I don't like it. Sometimes black rims looks good, but you often
lose detail and the beauty of the rim because from a distance all you see
black. YOu can't tell if the rim is 5 spoke, 7 spoke, or whatever . I
think cars look good when the rims are color matched in light colors, such
as pearl white, white, silver or light shades of gold, platinum.
