   I used some engine degreaser to clean the bugger and now when i turn on my car the temp gauge goes as high as possible...no water anywhere i can find....hints?

My guess is that the sensor is now disconnected...in any event find the
actual sensor and pull the connector and inspect it (connector) carefully.
Watch gauge reading as you pull/reconnect sensor wire.
