brake booster replaced, found firewall crack

It's such a bittersweet relationship, the one I have with my Coupe.
Some parts work good and I really like 'em and have confidence in them.
At the same time other parts are breaking and I feel like I'm into
Audi's because I like to always have to be fixing something.

I got the brake booster in, and now my brakes work like a charm. I can
hardly believe that people drive around with brakes this soft all the
time. I've been driving without boost for so long that I now feel "out
of touch with the road" when I come to a stop! The brakes are so easy
to apply now. I guess it was definitely the booster. The master
cylinder looked fine, no leaks or anything, and it really wasn't all
that bad replacing it. I waited until the end of the day practically
because I thought I would do it tomorrow. Then I went out there to take
a look so I can think about what it was going to involve, and I ended up
just working on it until the sun went down. Got it done just in time,
even after dropping the nut under the carpet and having to undo
everything to get it out.

Unfortunatly, while I was under there I say light coming through the
sheet metal by my clutch cylinder. The floor was cracked from the
stress <mental flashback to recent post about same problem>. Damn!
<think: am I going to experience _every_ failure ever mentioned on the
list?>

So, now I guess I have to have it welded up. It'll be fun pulling all
that stuff and then some off again.

Should I take it to a welder/muffler shop, or a mechanic, or a body
shop? I wish I had a garage with 220 so I could use my mig. Not to
mention another car to drive while I fix it.

Oh well. At least the booster's done. Now I can move on to the broken
stuff.

Later,

Ken
