Vickers mulls VW bid for Rolls-magazine
FRANKFURT, May 2 (Reuters) - The management of Britain's Vickers Plc (quote
from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: VICK.L) is considering an increased offer for its
subsidiary Rolls-Royce Motor Cars submitted by Volkswagen AG (VOWG.F),
German magazine Der Spiegel reported on Saturday.
The magazine said VW chief executive Ferdinand Piech was going to explain
the offer to Vickers chairman Colin Chandler in person. It said VW was
offering 400 million stg for Rolls and 100 million stg for engine
manufacturer Cosworth.

VW could not immediately be reached for comment.

Vickers sealed a deal on Wednesday to sell Rolls-Royce to Germany's BMW AG
(BMWG.F) for 340 million stg but VW, which last week increased its offer,
vowed to fight on.

Chandler told shareholders last week that if another offer emerged Vickers
would look at it in terms of shareholder value.
