88 90 Starter Replacement- anyone BTDT?

Friends,

The starter on my faithful 90 has started to skip a beat (or two).  What
the heck, it's survived 220k miles of starts.  It just had to happen
right after mucho money for an hydraulic engine mount and timing belt
and water pump and...

In any case, has anyone BTDT?  

Can I accomplish it in the driveway over the weekend?

Most important:  Is the starter the same as on 5000s of the same
vintage?  I've got the Audi Salvage bone yard just down the road from me
and would love to have them supply a starter cheap.  If it will fit. 
They almost never have 80/90 parts.
