Re: 92 100CS oil pressure warning - Auto System Check

Scott,

I have a printed TSB that I can fax to you, it's entitled, "Dynamic Oil
Pressure System - Troubleshooting tips"

It contains some helpful tips and possible causes for the oil pressure
light illumination. It appears that there are 2 switches, a low pressure
and a high pressure switch. The low pressure switch is checked below 2k
rpm, and the high pressure switch is checked above 2k rpm (I guess there's
no check right at 2k ;->), and one of them could be bad. Do you recall if
the warning is consistently above or below 2k rpm?

Other causes could be diluted or contaminated oil (doubtful in your case),
a defective oil pump or pressure relief valve, or, get this, "mechanical
engine problems". Sure, that's vague enough.

In comparison to my car, your idle oil pressure is lower than mine; I seem
to hover just around 2 bar, maybe a bit higher, and any bit of throttle
sends it directly to 5 bar or pegs it.

Anyway, send me a fax number and the tsb is yours.

Are there sensors under the engine which could have been effected by
running over the tire treds? The manual says to not drive the car when
the warning comes on, but I have driven over 100 miles since the warning
started yesterday. Appreciate any info.
