A90: electrical noise and weird downshift

Both termninal. The car is going to fall to pieces within hours and
you'd best sell it to one of these fine people here for half what you
paid for it.
The rattle is actually the hydraulic lifters. Sometimes a different
weight or brand of oil helps. Make sure the filter is marked "turbo"
(even though the car isn't) because the turbo filters have an
anti-drainback valve that keeps the lifters filled overnight.
The whine is the fuel pump. Over the years, we've debated the
relationship between the whine and catastrophic failure. One of mine
can be heard in the next street and has done 10,000 miles like that.
