re: problem tranny in '91 100 auto

Can anyone give Pat some advice?  I responded with info on the quattro list
and archives, and the mechanics/parts lists.

I am not a car buff but thought you may be able to point me in the right
direction. I own a 1991 Audi 100 with only 65,000 miles.  I have just been
advised that the transmission has no 3rd gear and needs to be overhauled at a
cost of $3 to 5, 000.

As best I can tell they only made the transmission, a 4 speed, for  that one
year.

Do you know of any reliable information sources or is there an Audi contact
that might be able to help.  We like the car but not if this is the cost of
keeping it.
